Easter delicacies… a little attention!

1 min reading time

The days of Easter are approaching and the various Easter delicacies have started to appear around us. A little attention is needed because in addition to Easter, the summer months are also approaching! No need to overdo it with the quantity. Try to keep a measure, without going overboard.

Below we will analyze the most famous Easter delicacies:

  1. Greek sweet bread

It is rich in calories, fat and cholesterol. It can be a good choice for your morning meal.

1 slice of Tsoureki has 180-200 calories.

Tip: Choose a plain bun and not a stuffed or chocolate-coated bun and you'll save extra calories and fat.

  1. Butter or Oil Cookies

They are traditional cookies that many housewives make on Easter days. Those made with butter contain a lot of saturated fat (the so-called bad fat). Therefore, especially if you have high cholesterol, consume them in moderation or better prefer oil crackers that are richer in monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fatty acids depending on the type of oil you choose to put in the recipe. They can also be a good choice for your morning meal with a drink.

1 medium cookie contains 100-120 calories

  1. Chocolate Eggs

A) Milk chocolate

It has more cholesterol than dark chocolate, but more calcium and less caffeine. Their caloric content does not differ much, but their nutritional composition does.

1 chocolate egg with milk chocolate of 100g has 540 calories

B) Dark chocolate

It is poorer in saturated (bad) fats than milk chocolates and richer in antioxidants. It has less cholesterol, is rich in some vitamins (A, D, E, K) and contains a better amount of iron than milk chocolate.

1 chocolate covered egg of 100g has 520 calories

  1. Red eggs

You can eat the famous red Easter eggs for breakfast. They are a very good source of protein of high biological value, but should be used in moderation due to their high cholesterol content.

Those who do not have any health problems can consume eggs even on a daily basis, following a balanced diet low in saturated fat. Those with high cholesterol are advised to limit their consumption of eggs, although in recent years research has shown that egg cholesterol does not particularly affect the body's cholesterol. It is good to eat 2-3 per week (better not all together in one meal).

Children can consume 4-5 eggs per week, always in the context of a proper diet that covers them in protein and through other foods, such as fish, poultry and meat.

  1. Kitchen

This traditional soup contains giblets, liver, onion, star rice, eggs & olive oil or butter. You need to pay attention to the quantity since, in addition to calories, it is also a soup with a high cholesterol content due to the offal and liver. We must also pay great attention to the time we consume it and of course to those who were fasting since it can cause many gastrointestinal and stomach disorders.

A portion of stew can give us 500-600 calories.

Tip: You can make it lighter by reducing the egg yolks you add and avoiding frying the liver and onions. Also avoid adding butter and prefer olive oil.

  1. Goat/Lamb

On Easter Sunday we have the established custom of skewering. Depending on the place and everyone's preferences, the spit will have either lamb or goat. If both are available and you can choose between lamb or goat, the better choice is of course goat with fewer calories and fat.

The 100gr. of lamb give about 350-370 calories

100g of goat gives about 180-200 calories

Tip: Choose a skinless thigh cut to save calories and fat.

  1. Chicken

For many it is an excellent appetizer and they often have it on the spits next to lamb or goat. Try it but in moderation as it is rich in fat and cholesterol.

1 serving of chicken has 250-270 calories

All that is needed is moderation and will and the next day we return to our daily correct eating habits!

Happy Resurrection and Happy Easter to everyone!
